Picking Apples & Our Favorite Recipes

October 9, 2014 by Shannon

Beautiful Apple Tree Falcone Farms

If you follow Cozy Country Living on a regular basis, you have probably read about how much I love Fall.  If you are visiting for the first time, well, I really love Fall! 🙂  This is my favorite time of year and it would not be complete without a trip to our local Apple Farm.

Falcone Farms Fall Apple Picking

It’s something we do every year and it’s just become a nice tradition and a great way to enjoy a lot of what our area has to offer.  I promised about a week or so ago that I would share some of our family’s day at the farm, so here goes…

Beautiful Rows of Apple Trees

I’m going to be honest here and tell you that I am always so excited when we are on our way to pick apples.  This is by far one of my most  favorite things to do and it just makes me so happy.  Who doesn’t like apple picking?!  I love the beauty of the orchards, the smells and the thoughts of all the yummy things I am going to make with the apples after we get home. 🙂 Cortland Apples are one of our favorites, but we like to McIntosh & Macouns as well, so we pick all of them!

Our Girls Picking Apples

As a family of 6, we are able to pick our apples fairly quickly.  Our children are 11, 9, 6 and 3, and all have very different levels of excitement about picking.  They also pick the apples very differently too.

Fresh Apples

Our older two children are usually in a little competition to see who can find the biggest and best apples, while our younger two are pretty happy and content with any apples they find and are able to reach and pick and they like to take their time.

Our Boys Picking Apples

I actually only picked a few apples this year because I was so busy capturing these precious family moments with my camera, but my little helpers were doing such a great job picking by themselves, so I didn’t worry about it.

Our Children Apple Picking

It was so nice just being in the orchard.  I loved watching our children and we really go to enjoy the gorgeous weather we had that day.  It was absolutely perfect!

A Bag Full of Fresh Apples

If you live near an Apple Farm, try to get there this Fall!  You can always check pickyourown.org to find the closest farm or orchard near you.  It’s a wonderful family activity and you make memories that will last a lifetime!
