May 2015 Stitch Fix Review

This post contains affiliate/referral links. (You can find out more about affiliate links in my Disclosure Policy.)

Hello there!  Welcome to May!  Can you believe it’s May already? The flowers around my house are just starting to bloom and the air is getting warmer.  We had a day of snow last week that put a damper on my Spring gardening plans, but I think it’s smooth sailing from here on out!  Mother’s Day is right around the corner too!  You know what would be the perfect Mother’s Day gift?  A Stitch Fix!

If Stitch Fix is new to you, let me fill you in on the important and fun details!  Now you can have your own personal stylist! Stitch Fix is a personal styling service that ships hand picked items to your doorstep. When you head over to stitchfix.com and sign up for a “fix”, you fill out your style profile and choose a day you would like to receive your fix. When you schedule your fix ( I schedule one per month, but you can do more or less), you are charged a $20 styling fee. When your Stitch Fix arrives, you have 3 days to try everything on and decide what items you would like to keep and which items you would like to send back in the enclosed prepaid envelope. You don’t have to lose your $20 styling fee either! You can apply that towards any purchase! If you love and purchase your whole “Fix” you get 25% too!  You can check out my past “Fixes”, HERE, HERE, HERE & HERE.

So Here’s My May Stitch Fix:

Loveappella Abella Maxi Dress $78

Stitch Fix Abella Maxi Dress Casual

This month I asked my stylist for a dress because I only have a few in my closet.  The problem I have with dresses is that they are usually way too long.  I am only 5′ tall and most maxi style dresses don’t come in a petite length.  If I do happen to find one that may work with wedges or some type of taller shoe, there usually isn’t enough coverage in the front because I have a larger bust and it usually doesn’t cover the bra straps in the back.  Wearing a strapless bra is not an option for me as I need the support.  When I put this dress on, I loved it.  It’s soft and comfortable, while being pretty and it also covers those thicker bra straps everywhere- even in the back.  I will have to wear wedges with this, but I don’t mind.

Stitch Fix Birch Lace Detail Blouse Outfit

I’m in love with this blouse!  I like the floral pattern and I love the lace detail.  I was hoping for something with a little more of a feminine touch and this was perfect!  It’s also hand wash and not dry clean, so that was great!  Out of all the items that I’ve ever received from Stitch Fix- this is my absolute favorite and I am planning on wearing it for Mother’s Day this year.  🙂

Moda Luxe Chicago Structured Satchel $58

Stitch Fix Chicago Structured Satchel Purse

I probably don’t need a new purse. With that being said, I also feel that since my children are getting older and my purse no longer doubles as a diaper bag, it may just be okay to have a few different bags to choose from.  This Coral Satchel is really pretty, it zips (which I love), and will go with many of the tops I have for Spring and Summer.

Olive & Oak Mulliken Raglan Striped Knit Shirt $48

Stitch Fix Mulliken Raglan Striped Knit Shirt

Stitch Fix Mulliken Raglan Striped Knit Shirt Casual

Okay.  So I was excited to get a really casual type shirt in my fix this month, but I wasn’t that excited about the price tag.  I wear 3/4 length t shirts most days because they are comfortable and practical for the things I do around my house like housework, gardening and cooking.  I did like the colors in this and I love stripes.  My 12 year old daughter though was in love with this for herself, which made me think that it may be a little too “young” for me.  I also did not care for the crew neck cut because it only made my larger chest look larger.  I tend to stick mostly with v necks because they seem to be a little more flattering.  Regardless of what this shirt looked like, it was extremely soft and comfortable.  I could wear this with a sweater or sweatshirt over it…Hmmm…

The Verdict: Kept

(I only kept this because it was cheaper to buy all 5 items and get the 25% discount than to send it back!)

Loveappella Jessie Draped Front Terry Knit Cardigan $64

Stitch Fix Loveappella Jessie Draped Front Terry Knit Cardigan

Stitch Fix Mulliken Raglan Striped Knit Shirt Casual

I just love this!  I love layers.  I wear a sweater, cardigan or sweatshirt every single day.  Some are more casual and some can be considered more dressy.  This cardigan is grey and I don’t have anything in that color or in a style like this.  I figured I could wear this with several different things and it is a piece that will definitely be in my closet for a while.

 The Verdict: Kept

Overall, I was probably more happy with this fix than with any of the others I have previously had- even the ones where I kept everything.  The items in this fix fit so nice and even though I am not really happy with my heavier weight right now, I felt confident and pretty in everything.  May Merchandise Total $292 – $20 Styling Fee – $68 Buy All 5 (25%) Discount = $204.

For those of you who wondering if Stitch Fix is for you, give it a try.  I know I’ve said this before, but I cannot believe how happy I am with this service.  As a busy mom who doesn’t take time to shop for herself on a regular basis, Stitch Fix helps me feel good about what I’m wearing and I can just grab something out of my closet and go.  Those styling suggestion cards are great too and I often refer back to them.  Even thought I don’t wear “dressier” clothes every day, it’s so nice to have them ready for special occasions, date nights, my children’s school functions and church.  Stitch Fix is great for all shapes and sizes and I am proof of that.  Consider treating yourself this month!  You’re worth it!

I hope you all have a great month and a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Hi Monica! Thank you:) I am so glad you are enjoying your fixes. I have been using that purse all summer and I get so many compliments on it. It’s so nice to get excited about something like “your fix” in the middle of the week when it arrives on your doorstep! Have a great rest of the week!

what brand are the jeans and cropped pants your wearing in the pics?? They look great. I have the hardest time finding jeans (who doesn’t). Fellow stitch fix addict as well!

Hi Erin! Both pants are from Maurices. If you don’t have a local Maurices store, they are online too. I have a hard time finding bottoms and these are my favorite. They are so comfortable too & reasonably priced. Definitely check them out if you get a chance! 🙂

I came across your blog on Pinterest and since I just ordered my first Stitch Fix box, I was curious about your comments. I just want to say thanks for sharing your pictures and comments on the items you have received. I am large busted and am a little nervous about what I will receive. The clothing pictures you posted are very flattering and now I am very excited to see what I get. Thanks so much for sharing! I am looking forward to to seeing what you get in August!
    Thanks again, Jennifer

Hi Jennifer! I hope you love your first fix! They really try their best to make sure you are happy. I think keeping a really good and up to date style board on Pinterest helps too. Sometimes it’s easier to show the stylist what you like instead of describing it in words. It took me a few fixes (I didn’t post them) for me to even get a feel for what I wanted to tell my stylist what I liked because it had been a while since i even thought about fashion for myself. I would love to hear how your fix turned out:)

everything looks good! i just got that Abella, too, and kept it – so soft and pretty colors and i love those slits at the bottom, kind of makes it look just a tiny sexy in a good way! (:

Thanks Jody! I’m glad you got the dress too! It’s the perfect, pretty, casual dress for Summer!

i just ordered my first fix after seeing so many great pics like yours on Pinterest. Thank you for sharing. Have you tried wearing your striped raglan top with a denim vest? They are my new go-to for creating a bit of a Vertical line at the front of my body to create a little magic illusion of a smaller chest.

Hi Amy! I haven’t tried that yet! Sounds like a great idea though- so I will definitely be doing that. Thanks! 🙂

Thanks so much Shannon! Kayla is my stylist and I just love her! I think once you find a great stylist who “gets” you, you definitely have to stick with her!

Another great Fix! I so look forward to reading your reviews every month, as we seem to have a similar figure. How belly-hugging is the Abella dress? I’m receiving it in my next Fix, and I’m nervous that it will be too clingy!

    • Shannon says

      May 13, 2015 at 9:20 am

Thank you so much Laura! The dress is very comfortable, and while the material allows for comfort, it’s not too thin and not that type of clingy that makes you feel self conscious! I hope you like yours. Let me know! 🙂

Everything you’ve gotten over the past 3 months looks fantastic on you! I tried stick fix for a few months a while back, but I only got one good box, never kept anything else. Your posts make me want to try again!

Thank you so much Cheyenne! You should try again! My first few fixes I never posted. I wasn’t confident enough to post them and I only kept 1 thing from each of them. They were styled by 2 different stylists and to be honest, I wasn’t thrilled with what I got. I also didn’t really make an effort to tell them what I wanted. After that, I really made an effort to add pieces to my Pinterest Style Board every month for my stylist to look at. Kayla has been my stylist for all of my fixes I have shared on the blog and I just love her! I request her every time now because I feel like she really gets my style and what I am looking for. If you do try again ( I hope you do 🙂 ), don’t be afraid to say if you don’t like something and why in your checkout. They don’t know unless you tell them. Thanks for checking out my fixes. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!
