Fun & Fruity Ice Cubes

May 14, 2014 by Shannon

Fun & Fruity Ice Cubes

Yesterday was a hot one!  We had slow moving thunderstorms overnight (which was good sleeping weather) and the temperature all day was in the mid 80’s.  For May here in Western NY, that’s very warm!  Out come the shorts and tank tops and of course all of the requests for summer outdoor activities like water balloon fights and running through sprinklers.  Because the thunderstorms were scattered throughout the afternoon, we ended up just staying indoors, but I did add some summer fun to my children’s afternoon snack.

Assemble the Fruit and Ice Cube Trays

These Fun & Fruity Ice Cubes aren’t anything fancy, but my kiddos just love them.  Freshly, bite sized chopped fruit are frozen with water in ice cube trays to give your family a colorful, fun way to cool off this summer!  I used fresh pineapple, strawberries, mandarins and raspberries in these ice cubes, but you can use just about any fruit that you have on hand.  Blueberries, kiwi, watermelon and even mango are a few of my other favorites.

Add Fruit To Ice Cube Trays, Fill with Water & Freeze

Because we mainly drink water at our house, these fruity ice cubes really give the water delicious, all natural flavor.  These would also be great in iced tea, lemonade or even orange juice!  After the ice cubes have melted, you can always snack on the fruit too.  Not only is this a simple thing to make, but your children will really have fun making these with you in the kitchen on a hot day.  Enjoy!
