Freezing Sandwiches

January 22, 2013 by Shannon

I had a few extra minutes when I was making lunch for the children yesterday so I decided to go ahead and make extra sandwiches to freeze.  Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches freeze great.  All you have to do is store them in baggies and pull them out in the morning to pack in a lunch.  By lunchtime the sandwich will be thawed.  I make sure I put peanut butter on both sides of the bread and then add jelly to prevent the bread from becoming soggy.

Turkey & Cheese or Ham & Cheese freeze really good as well, just do not put mayonnaise on the sandwich.   I do put mustard on them and that seems to work out just fine.  My oldest does not like any condiments, so this works out great for her sandwiches.  After I put the sandwiches in individual bags I like to freeze the sandwiches in a plastic container to prevent them from getting squished in the freezer.

I know making a sandwich doesn’t take that long at all, but I really like the convenience of grabbing it out of the freezer and putting it right in my children’s lunches.  I would love to hear more ideas for freezer sandwiches.  Have you ever frozen sandwiches before?  What kind of sandwich freezes the best for you?
