Valentine’s Day Snack Mix

January 24, 2014 by Shannon

Valentine's Day Snack Mix

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I am always trying to come up with something a little different for my children to bring to school and share with their classmates.  When my children come home on Valentine’s Day, their book bags are filled with sweet homemade Valentines and quite a bit of candy.  Now I don’t mind them having an occasional piece of candy or chocolate,  but 3 of my 4 children are in school, and that adds up to a kitchen full of candy (and children wanting to eat it all) at the end of the day.  Since snack mixes go over really well in our house, I decided to come up with a festive Valentine’s Day Snack Mix that isn’t really “candy” that they can bring to school.  Freeze dried strawberries are perfect in this mix because they look like little hearts and they pull the chocolate covered pretzels, Dark Chocolate Crunch Multi Grain Cheerios, vanilla covered yogurt raisins, almonds and white chocolate chips together for a tasty Valentine’s Day treat.  Homemade snack mixes are so much fun because you can add ingredients that your family loves and even come up with “themed mixes” for special occasions.  Plus, it’s the perfect type of recipe that your little helpers can help prepare too.  Although this mix makes a great gift, you may just want to make a batch and send it along in your child’s lunch or serve it as a fun after school snack instead.  Gather your loves in the kitchen this weekend to make a yummy batch of this Valentine’s Day Snack Mix!
