Last Minute Decor Ideas for the Holidays

December 21, 2016 by Shannon

I have partnered with Raymour & Flanigan and received product in exchange for this post. All expressed opinions are 100% my own.

Last Minute Decor Ideas for the Holidays

Hello friends! Have you been busy getting ready for the holidays? Me too! There’s the shopping, the gift wrapping, and the cookie baking that take up a lot of our time this season. One thing that’s always been really important to me is creating a cozy and inviting place for our family and friends to gather and enjoy one another’s company. Since time isn’t always on our side, I’m sharing some of my favorite Last Minute Decor Ideas for the Holidays with you!

Snow Covered Trees

A few months ago, I shared a Home Tour that included our NEW Colebrook Dining Set from Raymour & Flanigan! I am in love with this table and so is my family! It’s the perfect size for our larger family and guests. We’ve had extended family parties and it’s so nice to have everyone seated at just one table. When I started decorating our home for the holidays this year I couldn’t wait to see how this rustic table would pull the whole room together. But I saved that part for last…

The beautiful snow covered trees outside right outside our window was the perfect backdrop along with a little Christmas music to get me into a festive mood.

Hand Carved Deer on Mantle

I started with our mantle and built in shelving. I hung lit greenery across the top, added a mirror to open the space and these 2 beautiful wooden and hand crafted deer for a simple but rustic look to work off of.

Filling Shelves with Wood for the Fireplace

If you have a fireplace in your home and a spare shelf, fill it with some of your chopped wood! The wood adds a warm element to your room (especially with today’s popular cool color palettes) while also keeping the wood dry and ready for one of those cozy, spur of the moment winter fires!

Christmas Tree with Rustic Touches

I kept our tree pretty simple too adding pinecone garland with berries, gold & glittered reindeer, white flowers and red ribbon bows here and there. I carried the red around the room by adding real poinsettia flowers on a few shelves and with our red velvet, much loved family tree skirt.

Over the past few years, I had been storing and rotating my seasonal china on the open built in shelving by our fireplace. I was searching for a piece that could not only display them nicely but that would hold all of my special dishes and glassware year round. Well, guess what? I found it! We’ve just added the matching Colebrook China Cabinet to our dining room and it’s just perfect!

Not only does this piece look great, but it really does have room for everything! No more asking myself, “Now, where did I put that?”

Spacious Colebrook Rustic China Cabinet

This cabinet also has a really neat feature… 3 way touch lights! With a simple touch of the bronze hinge on the glass door, the lights go on! Storage in Colebrook China Cabinet I didn’t waste anytime putting my extra Christmas dishes and glasses in this cabinet. I was also able to store my table linens in the deep drawers and neatly store smaller things like my coasters, wine charms and napkin rings in the smaller felt lined drawers. If you have a china cabinet or hutch at home, simply adding a few small potted trees adds a seasonal touch and pop of fresh color without hassle.

Now I told you I saved the best for last… the table! It’s important that your “tablescape” makes a statement in your room, but also allows you and your guests plenty of room to eat too.

Simple Dining Room Table Decor

I was having a hard time deciding on how to decorate this long table. It’s hard to find runners for a table 9 feet long and I didn’t want to cover up the character of this piece with a tablecloth either. I little trip to the craft store solved my problem. I found this 9 ft. roll of burlap for only $7!

Candles with Pinecones

I rolled it across the middle of our table and topped it with bendable greenery and placed cinnamon scented pinecones around it. I filled 3 large glass candle holders with a few more small pinecones before adding the candles too. I found this really nice battery operated string of warm glow lights that I wove into the branches of the greenery for a little more ambiance as well.

Simple Holiday Table Setting

Rustic bronze and gold charger plates sat beneath my cream and white colored plates that held red sparkly napkins in pinecone napkin rings. If you have china collecting dust in your cupboard- don’t be afraid to get it out! You can still have a simple and casual table setting with them!

For even more seating, I pulled the sitting chair from my office and placed it next to the fireplace along with the comfortable rocker my grandmother gave me.

Cozy Chair by Christmas Tree

You can make your seating look inviting by draping a soft cable knit or sherpa lined throw across the arm of the chairs and accent it with fluffy, holiday inspired pillows.

Girls Hanging Ornaments

Now that this space is finally ready for festivities, it was time to hang our “special” ornaments on the Christmas tree! My children each have their own engraved ornament that they received on their first Christmas.

Boys Hanging Ornaments

They are really special and are always the last magical touch we add to our decor each year to make our home complete! No matter how big or small your space is this holiday season, make it your own by using things that mean something to you and your family.

Wishing you a wonderful Holiday filled with love,

Shannon Signature
