5 Tips for a Clutter Free Home this Holiday

The holidays are upon us, and that means getting our homes ready for out of town guests, family and friends. I don’t know about you, but I spend a lot of time getting my house holiday ready. Cleaning up clutter and getting organized can make your home feel warm, cozy and inviting. This is such a wonderful season, so getting things in order now will allow you to sit back and relax with your guests later. When the weather turns colder, out of season clothing, blankets and linens can take up a lot of space in your closets and guest rooms. Get these items properly stored away so that you can enjoy your family and your home this holiday!

Here’s 5 Tips for a Clutter Free Home This Holiday!

Consider Donation. With 4 children in our home, things can get really messy…really fast! Sometimes there are toys and clothing taking up space in their bedrooms and playroom that my children have grown out of. If you set a timer for just 30 minutes and take a box or plastic bag with you and quickly do a sweep of each room, you’ll be surprised at how much clutter you may be able to get rid of. This time of year people are always in need of warm clothing too. Get into the spirit of giving.

Have a Place for Everything. Most of the time clutter comes from not knowing where you are going to put something. Maybe you are out shopping and you see something pretty for your home that you would just love but don’t know exactly where it will go. Before you checkout at the register with any extra items for your home this season, make sure you have a picture in your head of where that item is going. If you can’t see it, don’t buy it! It will just end up taking up space somewhere looking messy.

Seasonal Closet Organizing

Pack Away Out of Season Clothing. Do you go through your dressers and closets every season? I didn’t use to, but let me tell you…my room was a mess! I was fumbling through clothes I hadn’t worn in a few months to find my sweaters and warmer clothes and my drawers were packed full. It only takes a few minutes to sort out the items you won’t be wearing until spring. You will then have a room to neatly put clothing where it belongs and have an easier time getting dressed each and every morning.

Seasonal Summer Pillows

Pack Away Out of Season Pillows, Blankets & Linens. This is a big one for me. I love different pillows, blankets and linens for each season to decorate my home. It’s a simple way to make your home feel cozy and welcoming each of the four seasons, but it also takes up a lot (and I mean a lot) of space, that I don’t have. When I change out these items, those out of season pillows, blankets and linens were piling up in my closet or in our guest room making those areas unavailable for normal everyday items and guest’s items when they come to stay with us.

Ziploc Space Bag Storage

Get Ziploc® Space Bags®! Ziploc® Space Bags® by far are one of my absolute favorite organizing tools! They quickly and safely will store away all of your bulky clothing and/or linens, giving you back the space in your home that you need.Ziploc Space Bags at Lowes

I was at Lowe’s on Black Friday, so I headed to the closet and organization aisle to grab a few boxes of Ziploc® Space Bag® products. I had already sorted my out of season items from my dressers and closets, but they were just sitting in a pile in the corner of my closet.

Ziploc Space Bags Flat Combo Pack

I couldn’t complete my seasonal “clean up” because I didn’t know where I was going to put all of that stuff. In a matter of seconds, my big pile of clothing and linens were compressed to flat, neatly stored packages that I could put practically anywhere. It’s so easy to do too! Just fill your Ziploc® Space Bag® to the designated line on the bag, seal it tightly, open the round seal tab, get out your vacuum, turn it on and suck the air out of the bag! That’s it!

Blanket Storage Ziploc Space Bag

Complete with an airtight and waterproof seal, Ziploc® Space Bags® allows you to store your items under beds, on closet shelves, in your attic or in your basement safely.

Using Ziploc Space Bags Storage

As a matter of fact, I’ve used Ziploc® Space Bags® for previous seasonal items, and my linens come out smelling as nice as the day I packed them away freshly laundered. These reusable bags protects against bugs, moths, dirt, mildew and odors too!

Ziploc Space Bag Stored on Closet Shelf

Take a few minutes this week to get organized and put away that extra clutter so you can really enjoy your home and family this holiday! Don’t get caught running around last minute trying to put things away.

Let Ziploc® Space Bags® help you get organized before your family and friends arrive and prepare for a relaxed, comfortable, cozy and welcoming home this season.
